EXTREMADURA INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY LANGUAGE DANCE FESTIVAL

The festival’s mission is to bring the best of new tendencies of contemporary dance to the Nuevo Leon audience. It is an annual event that actively brings together students, choreographers, teachers, dances and contemporary dance directors from all over the world.

Extremadura is an international cultural event lasting 10 days with the purpose of introducing diverse choreographic languages to our audience. The event brings together teachers choreographers, dances and companies from Mexico and other countries. Through the years, we have received support from such institutions as CONACULTA, INBA, the Japan Foundation, CONARTE, the Swiss Institute, The Swiss Embassy in Mexico, the Texas Comission on the Arts, the UNIVERSAL FORUM OF CULTURES 2007, UNESCO and more.

For this year’s edition the Festival, several nationally and international renown groups have been selected to participate, such as La Compañía de Danza y Arte Escénico de Colima in association with Le Soeurs Schmutt Company of Quebec, Canada; Gajuca, from Chile; as well as nacional and local companies such as: Proyecto Finisterra, Cuerpo Etéreo and Tandem Dance Company. Year after year, the Festival proves to surpass the level of quality achieved the previous year, creating an even greater international presence.

The Festival will be held at one of the most important theaters of Monterrey, Mexico: the Teatro de la Ciudad. There will also be seminars, workshops and master classes at the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza and at the Cineteca of the Centro de las Artes del Consejo Para la Cultura y las Artes de NL.

As a part of the Festival, the 5th Annual International Dance Critique Seminar will also be held. As part of this annual international event there will be lectures, seminars, master classes and dance performances that assure this event to be a true celebration of dance in the north of Mexico.

To promote the best of contemporary dance within the Monterrey audience; to introduce diverse languages of contemporary dance to various Mexican communities and to bring together outstanding contemporary companies to share their work with scholars, choreographers, directors, students, artists and audience and promote growth with a broader understanding of dance.
