The Consejo para la Cultura y las Artes de Nuevo León in coordination with the Organizing Committee of this event, hereby convokes the 7th International Contemporary Choreography Prize that will take place during the 12th Annual Extremadura International Contemporary Language Dance Festival to be celebrated in October 2009.
Requirements for Choreographers:
1. Choreographers must be at least 18 years old to participate. Employees of the Consejo para la Cultura y las Artes de Nuevo León or winners from the A or B categories from the previous competition are not allowed to participate.
2. Each choreographer is allowed to participate with only one choreography.
3. Participating choreographers must also present a résumé or summary detailing their dance formation and professional experience.
Choreography Requirements:
1. The theme is open and the work can be a premiere or within a maximum of three years from having been premiered and cannot have been entered in any other contest or prize.
2. The dance techniques are open (contemporary, ballet, jazz, Flamenco, etc.), but the dance must obey a contemporary language.
3. The choreography will be judged based on the following criteria:
Cleanliness and level of technique
Interpretation
Choreographic proposal
Use of scenery resources
Development
Originality
The work must respect the established time duration.
4. The choreography must have a minimum duration of 8 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.
5. The minimum number of dancers is 3.
Category Requirements:
1. Category A: For choreographers who are 30 years and older as of the date of the publication of this event.
2. Category B: For choreographers 29 years old or younger.
Application requirements:
The competition will be conducted in two stages:
I. PRE-SELECTION: For this first stage entrants must submit 3 DVDs with the video of the choreographic work to be entered. The DVDs must be labeled with the name of the piece, the name of the choreographer and the duration. The DVD format must be multi-region and NSTC.
In addition, the following must be submitted on a CD:
1. A synopsis or description of the work in 2000 letters in Word format (2003 version or earlier), in Times New Roman font and font size of 12.
2. Brief résumé in 2000 letters or less in the same format as above.
3. Three digital color (rgb) photos in .jpg, .bmp or .tif format in 300 dpi in a minimum size of ½ a page, mentioning the name of the photographer. Note: the photos can be of any of the choreographer’s work, not necessarily if the choreography being submitted.
4. A photo of the choreographer in the same format and dimentions above.
5. The following credits in this order: Title of the choreography, the Choreographer’s name, the name of the Artist’s whose music accompanies the work, names of the dancers, duration, scenery credits and costumes credits.
Each of the above requirements are to be saved to separate files.
Also, the following documents must be submitted, bound in a transparent binder:
1. Enrollment sheet with no omissions (included with the application form).
2. Copy of birth certificate.
3. Copy of an official ID or valid passport.
4. In the event the choreography submitted has already been staged, a complete history, with copies of programmes, of where and when the work has been presented previously.
5. Choreographers must include technical requirements specifying all lighting, sound, etc. needs. All production costs will be at the choreographer’s expense and responsibility.
All materials which are submitted for application and registration purposes must be complete. Any omission of requirements will void the applicant’s participation. Submitted materials will not be returned.

Application materials will be received in person Monday thru Friday between the hours of 9 am to 6 pm.
All the requested materials must be submitted by Monday, August 7, 2009 before 6 pm. Those materials sent via courier postmarked by the same will be accepted.
The list of selected choreographies and their authors will be announced on Friday, September 28, 2009 via local press media and the following websites: www.conarte.org.mx and www.festivalextremadura.org.
II. PERFORMANCE:
1. This second stage will consist of the choreography contest in which all the participating choreographies that were pre-selected in the first stage will be performed. This program will be presented to the pubic at 7:00 pm on October 21, 2009 as part of the 12th Annual Extremadura- Contemporary Language International Dance Festival at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Downtown Monterrey, Nuevo León , Mexico.
2. A maximum combined total of 8 choreographies will be selected from the two categories.
3. Foreign resident choreographers and dancers will be provided with up to two quadruple hotel accommodations, including continental breakfasts, at a local hotel of the organizing committee’s selection.
Prizes for each category:
Single Prize - Category A: Diploma and $70,000.00 (Seventy Thousand Mexican Pesos 00/100 M.N.).
Single Prize - Category B: Diploma and $40,000.00 (Forty Thousand Mexican Pesos 00/100 M.N.).
Single Prize to the Best Male Dancer: Diploma and $6,000.00 (Six Thousand Mexican Pesos 00/100 M.N.).
Single Prize for Best Female Dancer: Diploma and $6,000.00 (Six Thousand Mexican Pesos 00/100M.N.).
The judges of each stage will consist of dance professionals whose names will be made known upon completion of their judgments, which cannot be appealed. The judges of the second stage will be able to present honorable mentions where they believe appropriate and can also declare any category ineligible.
The organizing committee will not be responsible for sickness or injury during rehearsals at any time, during the presentation or while present in the city.
There will be no lending of scenery or other stage accessories of any kind or of any other additional illumination that does not currently exist in the theater.
By the submittal of the application materials it is understood that all contestants
accept all the terms, rules and conditions as described herein.
Any other unforeseen situation will be resolved by the organizing committee.
